Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
